Australia sends up a charming, two part account of life for one young man during the Great Depression when his adventurous, loving dad and his good mom take him, his sister and young brother gold mining. It may not seem like much, but Colour in the Creek hits pay dirt. The togetherness is a striking part of this story and the struggle the families endure are epitomized by a simple, touching Christmas. Director Rob Stewart keeps the drama low key and sensible, and the people strickly within the periods confines. It's a touching look into the past when values were as different as the people, whose blood is well worth bottling.
