INTRODUCTION (Source: DVD cover)
Not long after they settle into their new life, things begin to go awry; not only are their only neighbours dreadful nerds, but Des and Terri are forced to work interminable hours to meet the repayments. Worse still, their dream home turns out to be a lemon. Unforeseen difficulties begin to take their toll and when Des loses his license they are served with an eviction notice. Just when things seem to hit rock bottom, they are helped out by his brother Les (Philip Quast) a successful owner of a Tire Dealership and his wife Helen (Louise Le Nay). Des, goaded on by his wife's accusation that he never completes anything, he starts working night and day to complete a back yard barbecue to prove her wrong. When friends and family drop over to and marvel at Des's masterpiece, Les has a brilliant idea that Des should start his own business and starts making deals for him, that ultimately lead to a successful business career for his brother Des. More a light-hearted situation comedy than a satire, this film has its amusing moments. Competently made and entertaining it has no pretensions. The ending where the big cooperation gets it in the end is pure wish fulfillment, an embodiment of all our great dreams.
