The Complete Symphonic Recording was originally intended to be a cast recording of the Australian (Sydney) company, but that project was later abandoned in favour of an international venture including performers from the Australian, London, New York, Los Angeles and Tokyo productions, accompanied by the 72-member London Philarmonia Orchestra. One peculiar aspect of the CSR is that the cast never really met in a single recording studio: the instrumental tracks, recorded in Wembley and Nashville, were later shipped to Sydney and Los Angeles, where the different singers added their own numbers.

I sang with the Sydney company. They are very fun people but as I do not understand much English there was a person who followed me to to explain what they said. (...) Anthony Warlow is very handsome. Philip Quast - he sings very well! I rem21-May-2007is person is good to be Javert!" I see Phil sing the song 'Javert's Suicide' and it was a great feeling that he sang with. When he is singing the song, his hands keep moving and there was a lot of actions with his words. They [Philip and Anthony] are funny also. They were very nice to me as they had said to me what is good in their country. It was nice to see Javert and Enjolras as friends!
