Paris is a love story embedded in the most fantastic of Greek myths and legends. An epic of Trojan Wars, Hercules, Achilles, Cassandra, The Trojan Horse and the Legend of Helen of Troy. Jon English and David Mackay jointly wrote and composed Paris during the 1980's - at times communicating with each other from London to Sydney using an early form of the Internet. Paris was relased in 1990. With sweeping music, stellar cast and a sumptuous orchestra - it has attracted armies of devotees.

SYNOPSIS
King Priam of Troy's family is praying in a temple to seek guidance from the Gods Aphrodite (Love) and Athena. His daughter Cassandra warns of a looming catstrophe (Head Without a Heart), but Priam still decides to send his son Paris on a voyage to a neighbouring Greek nation to forster goodwill. (What Could Go Wrong). A storm gathers and his ship sinks near Sparta.
Paris is washed onto a beach and is nursed by Helen, the wife of the King (Perfect Stranger). He falls instantly in love convinced she is the Goddess Aphrodite. Paris is brought before the Greek Warlords who are gambling and fighting about business (Business). They make fun of their bedraggled visitor, but Paris has the last laugh stealing Helen back to Troy (Trust in Your Heart).
On the morning ramparts in Troy the first of the invasion fleet is spotted. The older brother of Paris, Hector, inspires his nation to repel the invaders (No Turning Back). Paris and Helen commit themselves for better or worse (For Better or Worse). Ten years of war follow. The Greek warriors start to fight amongst themselves (What Price a Friend). They regroup but Achilles is slain by an arrow in the heel just after he kills Hector. The Greek then devise a plan (The Horse with no Rider). They construct a giant horse. The Trojans take it inside their city. The Greek soldiers inside later open the gates. A rout follows, Troy falls and Paris is slain (Oh Paris). Menelaus is reunited with his wife but realized she left by choice (Love has power).

An original 6-track promo CD was published in 1990, but was withdrawn from the market because of a spelling mistake on the cover. Later on the CD & cassette of the full score were released and sold a record 44,000 copies during the 90s. After the first release went out of stock, second-hand copies were sold on eBay for close to $200.
In 2003, in conjunction with the World Premiere of the staged production of the show, the recording of the Concept-Album was re-released. The new album also includes 3 tracks never released before.

A new entirely re-worked production of Paris ran at the Laycock Street Theatre in Gosford (North Sydney) in April 2008. Composer Jon English - who played the role of Hector in the original 1990 production - joined the cast once again, this time in the role of King Menelaus.
