Definitely no folly in La Cage as the Menier brings another magnificent revival to South London.
A story considered risqué when first released and now mainstream La Cage Aux Folles is a thoroughly delightful musical extravaganza, gracing this fine fringe venue. Although much delayed due to illness, now it is finally open it certainly has been well worth the wait.

Philip Quast and Douglas Hodge respectively play George, La Cage’s owner, and his partner Albin, the aging transvestite star of the club, La Cage Aux Folles. Director Terry Johnson’s presentation of their relationship, through a wonderful melange of scenes that culminates in the reprised 'Look Over There', a surprisingly moving number, is entrancing throughout. Quast and Hodge, two serious theatre heavyweights, bring their exceptional talents to the fore and inject so much more life into their characters than the story allows.
