THE CATERPILLAR WISH
by Jonathan Dawson

Set in the graceful and enchanting seaside town of Robe in South Australia, The Caterpillar Wish adds yet another version to that apparently endless set of middle class tales of poetically-yearning young folks waiting to turn into butterflies.

Young Emily (Victoria Thaine is fine in this familiar role) cycles endlessly around the strangely silent street of her town photographing men of a certain age and her quest is soon revealed as that eternal hunt for the missing Daddy. Susan (Susie Porter in more retrained form here, a welcome sight) is the Mother who cannot tell her daughter the truth - and, indeed, the whole town seems to be in the grip of some fever dream in which no one can tell anybody about anything much at all.
