Wendy Hughes and Philip Quast join the cast of Australian actors in The Caterpillar Wish, a story about a young girl’s search for her real father. Emily, played by Victoria Thaine is a budding photographer and matchmaker and the teenage daughter of single mum, Susan. Emily’s mother works topless at the local bar and is frowned upon by the community. Her parents, devoted Christians, have long since given up on her and are openly resentful of the shame they believe she brought upon the family.
Emily is given a bible with an inscription from her grandmother (Elspeth Ballantyne, recognised for her role as the compassionate warden, Meg Jackson in the television series Prisoner), that takes her on a quest to find some answers to questions that have been festering since childhood. After a slow start, the movie takes off with Emily, the young teen falling in love with a young man who may well be her half brother or not.
