Slightly slapsticky with broad Aussie humour, Cherie Nowlan’s Introducing the Dwights is an ordinary dramedy that features a fine performance by British star Blenda Blethyn, but falls short in charm and originality.
Blethyn plays Jean Dwight, who once was a rising star in her native England where she sang and did comedy routines. But after marrying country singer John (Frankie J. Holden) and relocating to Sydney, her career and marriage fell apart. Today she works in a cafeteria and raises two adult sons, 20-year-old Tim (Khan Chittenden) — who drives her to her evening gigs — and mentally challenged Mark (Richard Wilson).
