THE NIGHT OF 1000 VOICES (2003)
by Carol

This was the third Night of 1000 Voices/Stars-type concerts I've seen. I've always found the choir hugely impressive and felt that ultimately it was THEIR night, but this time, impressive though they were as always, I think they were somewhat overshadowed by some AWESOME solo performances!!!

Reporting from the very privileged position of second row Stalls, directly in front of the spot where Philip sang 'Stars' I can assure you he gave the most perfect, faultless, magical, mesmerising performance and was truly wondrous!!! The memory of those luminous pale blues eyes gazing heavenwards is one that won't fade in a hurry.

The Les Mis section was indeed fantastic. Ellie Nunn (Trevor's daughter) was so sweet as Young Cosette. Graham Bickley, very much man of the moment with his fabulous performance in Ragtime (he's also darned attractive too, with very dreamy eyes!) was an excellent Marius. I liked Tommy Körberg's rendition of 'Bring Him Home' - different, but good. As for Lauren and Alan Campbell as Mr & Mrs Thénardier - LOL - I just couldn't stop laughing! Great stuff!!!

Now for my other Stand-out performances!! :
LOVED the deep voice of Kenneth Nichols.
David Michael Johnson is, I think, pretty much a regular at this event and you can see why. He always gives 100% and is such fun.
Judy Kuhn was impeccable in everything she sang. A Class Act.
Alex Jenning's Higgins was HUGELY impressive.
And the two that tie for first place:
Tommy Korberg's 'Anthem' (boy, did he nail this one!!)
and Glenn Close's 'With One Look'. Norma Desmond to perfection.
