Perhaps only someone like Michael Grandage, a director marinated in classical theater who has segued in recent years to musicals, could take a British musical like Evita and make you think of Shakespeare.
An odd association? Not on this occasion. Opening 28 years to the day after U.S. director Hal Prince left his immortal imprint on arguably Andrew Lloyd Webber's best score, Grandage has come along to reinvent a show that had only existed in an original staging whose Broadway transfer won seven Tony Awards.

If this were running at the National Theatre, stars Elena Roger and Philip Quast might well be playing Evita in repertory with Macbeth.
