Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber and Sir Tim Rice's Evita has been one of my favorite scores for years, (the OLC with Elaine Paige for those keeping track) so it was with great excitement that I planned a quick theatrical trip to London's West End to catch the new revival production. The show was quite well reviewed by the London critics (especially for an ALW work) and somewhat less warmly by the New York Times over the past month since it opened on June 21.

Surrounding Roger is a first class cast and ensemble. Phillip Quast, who's been on my CD player for years as Javert in the 10th Anniversary Concert of Les Mis and on the Australian Secret Garden recording, lends the necessary gravitas, acting ability and voice to breathe true life into the often overlooked and underplayed Juan Peron.
