The Secret Garden Original London Cast Recording

With rabid partisans as well as some detractors, the 1991 Broadway production of The Secret Garden ran close to two years but failed to return its investment. But the show has enjoyed many subsequent mountings at U.S. regional theatres.

For London, Quast moved up to the Patinkin/Warlow role of Uncle Archibald; Quast, perhaps best known here for his Javert in the symphonic recording and concert video of Les Misérables, also played a Patinkin role in the National Theatre's Sunday in the Park With George.

Quast has a lovely voice; if he's somewhat less distinctive than Patinkin, he's also less mannered, and manages to sing the role with less resort to the head tones employed by Patinkin and his successor, Howard McGillin.
