SWAGGERING INTO A NEW VIETNAM?

David Hare calls Stuff Happens, his work about the build-up to the war in Iraq, a "history play". But it feels more like a morality play. It focuses on the reasons for going to war and the motivations of the main players, including George Bush, Dick Cheney, Colin Powell and Tony Blair.

All of these are portrayed on stage, acting out events, mostly from 11 September 2001 to the invasion 18 months later. They use the actual words where known, and the playwright's imagination elsewhere.
