The Gulf War has spawned a major industry, with books, movies and plays
being churned out every other week. After the huge success Michael Moore's
Fahrenheit 9/11 enjoyed, Londoners can currently see David Hare's
new play Stuff Happens, and Tim Robbins' Embedded.
While driving to see the former production at the National Theatre, I
thought about Moore's documentary which has been such a controversial
hit. We drove 60 miles to see it when we were in Canada, and I must confess
to a certain disappointment: after all the hype, I had expected to learn
something from the film. But Moore was preaching to the choir, and for
a news junkie like me, at least, there was little the documentary contained
that had not appeared in the press or on the internet before.
