I loved Sweeney Todd. I had never seen it before so it was all new to me. I thought the whole production was great but having read some of the reviews I would agree that some of the younger leads were a bit weak.
However PQ was superb. I was afraid he night not quite match Bryn in singing style but the duet 'Pretty Women' was excellent. I think that the year singing in Evita has improved his voice. It has that golden tone that I had not noticed before. Although it was there at Stephen Pimlott celebration concert in May.
It proved that he just has something that that makes him stand out. I wish that some directors would notice him more and give him something to get his teeth into over here in the UK. I think it was a very good move to have done this as it has brought him to the attention of folk who had not heared or seen him before.
I wonder if Bryn will invite him next year to BrynFest!
I was amazed how many people had not realised it was not a full production. so many folk around me kept asking about the scenery and were was it! Don't people read any more!!
I was pleased to hear people talking about PQ especially those that had really come to see Bryn. There were plenty of folk asking about him and where did he come from etc.
I would love to see the whole production. I believe PQ had quite a bit cut from his part, but this could have been because of the short time he had between shows.
If you did not see it you really missed a treat.
